Mike Lyden

2008 WHOSAM Awared Winner Mike Lyden with Stan Randall, Steve Voellmecke and Joe Chirico

It’s been 10 years since the diving world lost one of it’s own – Iron Mike.  Mike Lyden was the former diving coach at Louisiana State University and the University of Kentucky, and passed away on April 11, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Mike left a legacy of success at both LSU and Kentucky that included earning the 1996 NCAA Coach of the Year honor and being named the 2008 WHOSAM Recipient for his contribution to the sport of diving. Mike was also named Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year at both LSU and Kentucky an unprecedented 12 times.

Most importantly, Mike left a behind  an enormous impact upon his own divers and also the sport as a whole, in addition to leaving behind his wife Emily and his children, Jessica, Jack and Brittany. His presence on the pool deck is sorely missed.
